Awards

The purpose of this annual award is to acknowledge staff, students or faculty working on Justice Equity Diversity Inclusion and Indigenous Reconciliation (JEDI-IR) initiatives and to support members of Equity-Deserving Groups (EDG) with tuition or to encourage research of their choice.

Eligibility

  • Student nominees must be registered as a full-time or part-time Graduate Diploma, Master’s or Doctoral student in any of the following education programs: GDCE, GDCPH, Health Research Methodology, Health Policy, Public Health or eHealth.
  • Faculty nominees must be full or part-time faculty in one of the following education programs: Health Research Methodology, Health Policy, Public Health, or eHealth.
  • Staff nominees (full or part time) must be actively employed in the department of Health Research Methods, Evidence, and Impact (HEI).
  • All nominees should members of the department (students, staff or faculty) working on a new JEDI-IR initiative OR members of an EDG seeking support with tuition or to help encourage research in the area of their choice.

Nomination

  • Please submit a nomination letter of no more than one page outlining why the nominee is the ideal candidate for the award, describing how their work, teaching, research, or service embody the principles of JEDI-IR. Use concrete examples such as those identified in McMaster’s EDI Framework for Strategic Action: Pillars and Areas of Focus/Impact.
  • Self nomination is allowed.
  • The nominations should include the name of the nominee, their status (staff, faculty, or student) and the EDG group(s) they belong to. Nominators should ensure that the nominee is comfortable with the information shared about them.
  • Also submit a nominee CV with EDI activities (teaching, service, research) highlighted if applicable.
  • Submit your nominations to Megan Johnson (johnsm59@mcmaster.ca) by the 15th of November 2024.

  • The Award recipients will be recognized at our annual Research Day in April 2025.

Adjudication

A committee of faculty, staff and students will be formed to review the nominations and select awardees. The committee members will all receive training in unconscious bias.

Awards

Three awardees will be recognized.

  • Student award: $3,500
  • Staff award: $2,500
  • Faculty award: $2,000
